2017 HD Expo and Conference Heads to Las Vegas
he annual Hospitality Design Expo
Tand Conference continues to pro-
vide military designers and lodging pro-
fessionals with a forum to learn about
the newest and most up-to-date products
and services in the industry.
The conference takes place Wednes-
day, May 3, to Friday, May 5, at the
Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las
Vegas, Nev.
The three-day event offers many out-
lets of inspiration. HD Expo is where
more than 850 international manufactur-
ers choose to debut new products — from
lighting and seating to wallcoverings and
furniture. Designers and architects can
gain valuable AIA and CEU credits
through attending one of more than 25
conference sessions. Attendees are able
to make game-changing connections and
cultivate relationships at multiple
networking events.
Conference highlights include
the show’s signature event, the HD/
ISHP Owners’ Roundtable, where
attendees have the chance to per-
sonally engage with more than 30
hotel executives; and the opening
session CEO Talk, which features
leaders from some of the top life-
style and luxury hotel companies
sharing their views on the industry.
Additional panels explore how hos-
pitality is influencing other indus-
tries — and vice versa, exquisite
restaurants in unexpected places,
and a development helping to return
a beach town to its former glory.
This year’s show will feature a
Social Hub, designed by Rockwell
Group, on the show floor which
will serve as a platform for attendees
and exhibitors to gather and engage in

thought-provoking conversations about space includes a bar, mini theater and

that feels effortless and pushes
the boundaries with captivating
materials and design.
On Wednesday and Thursday,
the Social Hub will host a handful
of informal sessions on top-of-
mind issues, including the Busi-
ness of Design, where industry
leaders will talk hiring practices,
winning projects, negotiating fees
and how they stay on top in such
a competitive marketplace; an in-
side look at the Barry Sternlicht’s
newest eco-friendly 1 Hotel in
Brooklyn with the design team;
a discussion on Social Media and
Design, and how the two impact
each other; and a panel on trends
Inspired by the retro appeal of a 1980s in restaurant design. In addition, the hub
high school cafeteria, the multipurpose will welcome back NEWH’s Green Voice
Discussions, a series of panels focused
on sustainability.
The show’s keynote will feature Steve
Wynn, CEO and chairman of the board
of Wynn Resorts, and Roger Thomas,
executive vice president design for Wynn
Design and Development, two hospitality
legends. With world-famous projects as
part of their joint resume, including the
Bellagio, Wynn Las Vegas and Encore,
they have set new standards of luxury and
opulence in their hotels and resorts. At
this session, they discuss their working
relationship, the challenges of exceeding
their own high standards, and their cur-
rent and future hospitality plans.
