MWR FOOD SERVICE

           Asian

           Comes to Wiesbaden

ince early this year, servicemembers and their families
Sliving in the Hainerberg Housing Area of U.S. Army
Garrison Wiesbaden, Germany, have enjoyed Asian fusion
cuisine without having to leave the neighborhood. Bamboo
Restaurant, opened by the garrison’s Family and Morale, Welfare
and Recreation Division in January, is within easy walking
          distance of the commissary.
Located in the building that formerly housed the Army &
Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) Hainerberg Shopping
Center — Building 7762 — the facility took about a year to
          complete.
The new restaurant offers a full slate of Asian cuisine,
everything from Szechuan-style beef and chicken dishes to a
wide array of sushi options. Technically, the menu would be
covered by the term “Asian fusion,” as it combines elements
of different culinary traditions — including Japanese and
Thai — as well as several regions of Chinese cuisine.
Most dishes are priced in the $7-to-$11 range, with some
sushi dishes a bit higher in price. Smartly priced Asian des-
serts are also available for those with a sweet tooth after the
          main meal.
In the months since the new restaurant opened, it has earned
a 4.8-star rating from patrons for its culinary offerings. Among
community member comments of “really delicious” and “great
food,” the only drawback noted was that it sometimes takes a
while before an order is ready, but even that remark was tem-
pered with the conclusion that “the wait is definitely worth it!”
“I think it’s great,” said David Puzicha-Dunn, Wiesbaden
Commissary front-end manager, while sampling Bamboo of-
ferings on opening day. “People can get lunch here — and it
          offers another healthy food choice.”
The Bamboo Restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday
          from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Although take-away orders are available, delivery service
is not currently offered by the restaurant.

             Located on USAG Wiesbaden, Ger-
             many, the Bamboo Restaurant offers
             servicemembers and their families
             numerous Asian cuisine options.
