MILITARY FAMILY
Just Outside D.C., Kids Marvel at Super Hero Training Camp
s part of the annual Month of the Military Fam-
Aily celebration, it was time to unleash some kid-
generated fun at the NSA Bethesda, Md., Morale, Welfare
and Recreation’s (MWR) second annual Super Hero
Training Camp.
The free event, which took place on Saturday, Nov.
17, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the MWR Fitness Center,
had children aged three to 10 years old dress up like their
favorite superheroes and go through obstacle courses
to display their super-strength. It was open to all who
have base access.
According to its MWR marketers, it’s one of the
installation’s most popular kids’ events. “Training the
world’s newest heroes starts here!” posters and Facebook
postings proclaimed … while at the same time asking
anyone with superhero costumes to volunteer to help.
The young participants not only played games while
wearing their super hero costumes, but they met several
adult costumed characters including Wonder Woman, Iron
Man, Spider-Man and the Flash from the comic book-
television-movie universe of Marvel and DC comics.
They even posed for photos at the event’s “photo booth,”
both solo and with their adult counterparts.
And if the number of “Pows!,” “Bangs!” and “Zaps!”
were counted and were any indication, the event was a
“super” success.
