Purchase College Sets Sushi World Record

Slege in New York broke a world record by creating a 504-foot-long
sushi roll on Oct. 18, 2017.
Under the guidance of Food Network star Jet Tila and Chartwells,
the campus foodservice provider, the participants turned approximately
800 sheets of nori paper, 500 cups of rice, 125 avocados and 200 pounds
of surimi into the world’s longest sushi roll on the school’s Great Lawn.
“It was great to be a part of breaking a world record with my
longtime partners from Chartwells,” said Tila. “It was extra special to
honor National Coming Out Day by make our rainbow roll. Breaking
the world record was really all about community. It brings the students
together and brings attention to World Coming Out Day!”
The Purchase sushi roll surpassed the 422-foot roll made by the
University of Massachusetts, Amherst in September 2010.
The event raised $1,350 each for two charities, the Food Bank of
Westchester and Midnight Run.
